Statement

Eirini Kartsaki writes and performs. Her work is focused on performance practice and research and explores notions such as repetition, desire, the unfulfilled and endings.

She has studied Theatre and Performance in Greece and the UK. She is currently pursuing a doctoral research project at Queen Mary, University of London, entitled Repeat Repeat: Returns of Performance. Eirini has presented work in conferences such as Performance Studies International 13, New York, Repeat Repeat, Chester University, Live Performance Practice as Research, Royal Holloway, London, Feminist Research Methods, Center of Gender Studies at the University of Stockholm and London Theatre Seminar, Senate House.

Eirini is an associate lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London and a founding member of the Cheers & Loud Company, which organizes and delivers theatre and music workshops in schools and communities. (http://cheersandloud.blogspot.com/)

Her performance work, which is about and from the body, explores the thrill and wonder of eroticism, discovering, through the physicality of movement and the repetitive storytelling that, ultimately, what we want is to want. Some of her recent works include Cock Tales and Ballads, presented in the Scene Pool, Camden People’s Theatre, East End Collaborations, QMUL and Arnolfini, Bristol. She has also presented work at venues such as 291 Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery, The Place, Biennale d'Art Contemporain de Lyon, Man-in-Fest Festival, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
