Statement
1: I am an artist.
2: I live in Hackney, East London.
* I continue to study and be influenced by artists using visual forms to investigate the body in time and space.
444. Sarah Jane’s practice has developed around periods of Investigation: Beliefs about heroism; the need for assistance; contracts and obstacles.
+ I was born in Dover in 1978.
± I am an optimist.
9: I ask questions.
~ Her investigations have taken forms in mixed media including: Performance, photography, installation and moving image.
3: I work across and between a number of disciplines.
4: I collaborate with other artists.
` I provide technical, touring and administrative support for theatre, performance and new work companies.
8: Her work explores communication. Present concerns comprise: resilience, legacy, the imperfect, make-do and mend, trade offs skill-swaps and usefulness.
: I am excited by the proximity between something working and not working.
16: I like looking at people, looking at other people.
10: I enjoy work that: demands my attention, takes notice that I am watching it and asks me to contribute to the meaning making processes.
11: Sarah Jane’s projects and ideas form starting points for an on-going making and unmaking process. Hoping to enable dialogues between the watcher(s) and the watched.
15: She attempts to utilise forms, which remain fluid and live. Presenting work, with the understanding it will be ‘infected and informed by those who see it and by its context, situation and the conditions of its presentation.'
£: Presently I am engaged in 'The Art of Living'. series of daily tasks and simple routines being followed, tampered with and documented. to be presented as an installation post August 2009.
