Statement
BIOG:
Áine Phillips has been making performance and installation art for seventeen years in the West of Ireland and internationally. In the late 80's she worked with Irish community groups developing street based theatre works that traveled to Europe and the USA. During the 90's she worked as a performer, designer and director, often collaborating with companies in Madrid, New York and Vienna. Currently she works on solo performances and exhibitions internationally and is Head of Sculpture at the Burren College of Art, Ireland where she is co-ordinator of undergraduate studies and teaches on MFA programmes in conjunction with the RCA, London and School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Exhibitions and performances include: Macnas, Ireland and European tours 1988-95. Factorio Teatro, Madrid 1994, Landesaustellung, Austria 1997, The Kitchen and Moving Image Gallery New York 1999, Dublin Irish Film Center 2000 & Arthouse 2001. EV+A, Limerick 2002. NRLA Glasgow 2002, 2003, 2005.
MOCA Cleveland & Cleveland Performance Art Festival and Collective:Unconscious New York 2003. Kunstmuseum, Liechtenstein, the Museum of Perception, Graz and the Museum of Architecture, Stockholm. Inport, Estonia and Candid arts, London 2003. In 2004, the Kunstraum, Dornbirn Austria, Galway Arts Centre, Soundworks Art Trail Cork, Limerick City Gallery, and a series of public art installations are commissioned by Clare County Council, Ireland. In 2005 ‘Red Wedding’ performance work at Granary Theatre, Cork and video work ‘Flowing Body’ screened by Cork Film Centre. Both exhibitions were part of Cork European Capital of Culture 2005.

In 2006 she will curate Live Landscape, an international exhibition of live art in the rural context at Burren College of Art Gallery in association with Clare County Council.
