My Body Lies Over the Ocean is a transatlantic, non-linear performance that blueprints the emotional distance from Seattle to London via YouTube, Soft Rock, and Skype.

In this new work, Helsinki Syndrome charts the real life separation of artistic partners Rachel Hynes + Mike Pham, while Ms. Hynes spends two years in London, exploring how an ocean’s separation affects their relationship with each other, and ultimately, how it affects their relationships to themselves.

Developed and performed on two continents, this intensely personal work elucidates temporary and unreachable distances with isolated scenes, performance action and, experiments in new media, soft rock music, and dance.

My Body Lies Over the Ocean will receive its world premiere in Helsinki Syndrome’s second presentation with On the Boards’ NW New Works Festival [Seattle] (www.OnTheBoards.org).

Helsinki Syndrome traditionally uses low-tech solutions to create high-impact experiences. This is the group's first project that incorporates technology and new media. Video, YouTube, blogs, email were instrumental in the development of the work and the performance will feature video and a live Skype conversation with Mr. Pham from Seattle.

This international cast includes Cecile Solberg, Martin Dinnis and Mike Pham. Lighting design by Celeste White.
